Sanctuary, the underground city was one with a vast history of intrigue in mystery. While highly regarded as a beautiful tourist site, there was very little actually known about it. All that ever surfaced was pictures of it, most people who went down there made the choice to stay down there permanently. This lead to many myths forming about it, from kidnappings to cults. Were they true? No one knew, but one investigative reporter by the name of Nick was going to find out.

While there were many rumors to go off of, Nick wanted to get the most accurate story possible. And there was only one way to do that, get the story from the citizens of Sanctuary first hand! Nick prepped his luggage for a stay of a week. He had no intention of staying any longer than that. He was there for one reason and one reason only, a story.

The path to Sanctuary was not one that was simple. Nick was to follow signs to it, however none of them actually pointed in the direction you were supposed to go. Rather, you had to base the direction by the adjective used to describe Sanctuary. It was the only time Nick had to actually use the rumors as it was too complicated to decipher on his own. It would pay off with the cave entrance to the town he had spent what seemed like ages searching for. With a deep breath, he entered into the doors.

After a long hallway, he was greeted by an older parrot man happily.

"Welcome to Sanctuary! Where the dust comes to settle!"

"That's an odd motto...so what? It's an elderly home?" Nick asked.

"By golly no!" he laughed a bit. "It's so much more than that! Come with me, I'll explain everything there is to know!"

Nick nodded with a wicked smile, he didn't think it'd be this easy! He followed the parrot man, who refereed to himself as Jeremy. There was idly chit chat between the two, none of which Nick bothered to take note of. Jeremy claimed to be the son of one of the founders of Sanctuary. Soon, the two made their way to the town hall.

"Here is where all our history begins. This started as a home for the miners contracted by Great Plains before it became corrupt." Jeremy explained.

"Like, the Great Plains as in the animal dominated city?" Nick asked.

"Yes, the very ones that hate your kind! It wasn't always like that, when the original leader disappeared and an animal took his place it was the downfall of what was a beautiful thing!"

"I see..." Nick jotted down the note, it could be worth searching into later. "And where did Sanctuary come from then? Is it a safe haven for humans?"

"Not by any means, no!" he said back. "Not to say we don't like humans as much as our animals counterparts, but due to the ritual we don't have much choice to be animal exclusive!"

"Ritual? What do you mean ritual?" Nick asked, the information already connecting with disappearances.

"We are able to keep Sanctuary safe by sacrificing our human sides to the Gods! They've provided the mine with dust to appease them!"

"Dust? What's this dust?"

"Oh, you'll find out!" he chuckled. "It's the greatest thing ever gifted to us! The founders of Sanctuary found it and knew it had to be kept safe, and now we are the guardians of it!"

"No one's tried to steal it then? Seems like something with this much value could make some good money."

"There was one vixen who betrayed the trust of Sanctuary and was banished to the outside world. We've not heard of her since but we fear she was able to replicate the dust's effect to even greater power." he sighed. "She was very keen on an all animal world because she hated humans and their happiness."

"Right." Nick jotted more notes down, this was already going to be some story! "So, what about all the people coming down here and never coming back? What say you to that?"

"They're all welcomed to leave, but once they see the light of the dust they never want to! Sanctuary has become a bustling town, with many guarding the dust from evil!"

"Aren't you afraid someone will betray the town again?"

"The vixen was never shown the light of the dust, and she stole what would of been used on her to allow her to see. However, after taking it she used it for her own personal goals. A tragedy really, the dust is the best thing!"

"You talk about this dust quite a lot, what is it?" Nick said.

"Come with me." he said with a smile as the two of them went outside of the building to the courtyard, and there was a chair that was surrounded by natural light from the surface. "Please, have a seat." Jeremy instructed.

Despite feeling a bit uneasy about it all, Nick nodded and took a seat. "Okay...now what?"

"Just relax and close your eyes." Jeremy instructed and Nick reluctantly obliged. While like that, he felt an odd sensation hit his face and caused him to cough a bit.

"That's normal, keep your eyes closed." Jeremy told Nick who did that, despite an annoyed look forming. However, it soon calmed as he started to feel all new kinds of emotions. It was as if he was mind had opened, and he realized just how important this dust was. Not only that, he was suddenly filled with an urge to do anything to protect it. And in order to prove it he was willing to give up his humanity, and that's exact what he was going to do.

Nick's face pushed outward greatly, his teeth became more rounded and flat as his nose became black with large nostrils. His ears became much longer, vanishing for a split second before reforming at the tip of his head. Nick's hair grew much longer, reaching his back while a mane went down his back. His eyebrows thinned out greatly while his eyelashes elongated.

Nick's whole body was covered with grey fur all over, a lighter shade of grey forming on his front. His arms slendered down while his legs became much more shapely. Nick's hips widened outward greatly while his rear end did the same. Just above his rear, a thin grey tail with a black tuft of hair at the tip formed. His feet became harder and rounder as they became a pair of hooves.

The last wave of changes came to his sex. Nick's manhood slid back into him, reforming greatly to ensure a female reproductive system all while two rather large mounds of flesh pushed out from his chest, becoming soft and sensitive. With that, Nick's eyes shot open, now a donkey woman ready to protect the dust and embrace it.

Nick got up from her chair and looked over to Jeremy who was smiling and Nick ran over and hugged him tightly, nearly on the verge of tears. "Thank you...I understand why the dust is so important." she said to him.

"I know, once you see the light you'll never go back." he rubbed her back warmly. "Come now, let's get you some new clothes so you can better serve the dust."
Part of a shared universe with :iconhamcon: that is still un-named but features a thing called dust a lot, and while normally we switched off weekly, and he's focusing on his own event I will be the only one posting to it this month.
